My Story

I'm Martina Dempsey and I grew up in the Thoroughbred County near the Curragh in Kildare and was involved with horses from a young age. My first job working in racing was with Trainer Frank Ennis and I gained experience with many other racehorse trainers on the Curragh and in Australia over the years.  I'm an education professional with a Master of Science (MSc) focused in Applied Equine Science from University College Dublin.  Previously an Equine Lecturer at the College of Agriculture Food & Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) and Kildalton College, I joined the Godolphin Flying Start team in October 2021 as Ireland Coordinator.  As well as this role I also teach at Racing Academy and Centre of Education (RACE) and The Irish Farriery school along with riding a few lots at Rangers Lodge Pretraining.  Although working for many years in the Thoroughbred Industry I have never rode on the track and I'm very honoured to get this opportunity to do so and to raise money for a worthy cause.

Consisting of three races to be held at Naas Racecourse, the Curragh and Leopardstown, I have the opportunity to complete the hat-trick by taking part in all three races while raising awareness and much needed funds for Irish Injured Jockeys.

As part of my challenge not only am I aiming to raise €10,000 for Irish Injured Jockeys, I will need to maintain my weight and fitness throughout the series and engage in race coaching to understand how to ride a race and each course effectively.

All money raised goes to supporting the incredible work of the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund and your donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
