2023 Corinthian Challenge
Katy Brown
My Story
I'm taking part in the 2023 Corinthian Challenge.
Consisting of three races to be held at Naas Racecourse, the Curragh and Leopardstown, I have the opportunity to complete the hat-trick by taking part in all three races while raising awareness and much needed funds for Irish Injured Jockeys.
As part of my challenge not only am I aiming to raise €10,000 for Irish Injured Jockeys, I will need to maintain my weight and fitness throughout the series and engage in race coaching to understand how to ride a race and each course effectively.
All money raised goes to supporting the incredible work of the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund and your donation is greatly appreciated.
I come from a racing background, my father Joey was a flat jockey and my mother Rachel has worked as racing secretary and Personal Assistant to a couple of trainers. I always had ponies and competed mostly in showing and showjumping but as I got older I got bit by the racing bug and started working for Dandy Nichols. After working for some well known trainers I decided to have a crack at training myself and have held a trainers licence the last few years, training winners both flat and national hunt in Ireland and the UK. The highlight of my career so far was Derby weekend 2021 when I trained Effernock Fizz to win the Ragusa Premier Handicap and Allora Yeats to be second in the Apprentice Derby. It was a great result for a small yard to get a winner and a second from two runners on such a prestigious weekend. I am excited and extremely greatful to be taking part in this challenge and to be riding at three of the best racetracks in the country. I can only imagine the buzz to be taking part in the sport as a jockey. I have been very fortunate to train a couple of winners up the Curragh and if I could ride a winner there it would be amazing.
Thank you.
