My Story

I’m Hazel Smith from Athboy in Meath and I’m really looking forward to participating in this year’s challenge.  Currently, I work as Cabin Crew with Aer Lingus and I also hold a private pilots license.  I’m a full time mother to my beautiful son TP who has just completed his Junior Certificate and is in Melbourne riding track work in Ballarat with his father for the summer.  My first love is horse-racing and I’ve been very lucky to have dipped my toes into the industry.

Tony Martin is a great supporter of the Irish Injured Jockeys and I am very privileged to be able to ride out and avail of a horse for the series.
I’m looking forward to raising money for a very worthy cause & raising awareness to the risky career that is being a jockey and the financial support that they depend on for recovery to get back into the saddle!

Consisting of three races to be held at Naas Racecourse, the Curragh and Leopardstown, I have the opportunity to complete the hat-trick by taking part in all three races while raising awareness and much needed funds for Irish Injured Jockeys.

As part of my challenge not only am I aiming to raise €10,000 for Irish Injured Jockeys, I will need to maintain my weight and fitness throughout the series and engage in race coaching to understand how to ride a race and each course effectively.

All money raised goes to supporting the incredible work of the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund and your donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
